Despite the muted, overcast sky we've had for the past three days, we are awash in florals and good feelings indoors.
Joseph gifted me with a very large candle labeled "Happiness" (was he trying to pass a hint? I may have been grumpy lately, but that's because I am awoken 5+ times a night by my 18 month old child. Oh well, I'll take all the help I can get in that department). It is a Jasmine scented candle, which, I believe, is among Joseph's favorite scents. I think it reminds him of his childhood. Or was it his stay in Santorini? My brain is fuzzy. Heck, I can't remember what I ate yesterday for lunch. Digressions...
Today called for a special drink. It's called the London Fog (aka Earl Grey Latte). My first go-around with Earl Grey tea, I was not fond of it. Maybe that brand had too much bergamot. So, I stayed away from it. Then, when my sister visited a long while back, we went to my favorite eatery and she ordered an Earl Grey latte. Hesitantly, I tried it. I was smitten. Creamy, fragrant, satisfying. Since I'm trying to reduce my coffee consumption, I thought I'd try to give it a go and make it at home. You'll need a big mug, but thankfully, my husband is proficient in making a hefty vessel that can accommodate a serving and a half of your favorite beverage.
LONDON FOG (aka Earl Grey Latte)
1 cup (8 oz.) hot water
1 earl grey tea bag (or 2 if you like it stronger)
1/2 tsp. lavender (YES! It's edible!)
1/2 cup (4 oz.) steamed milk (any kind is yummy, and microwave is fine, just don't boil it)
1 Tbsp. sugar (any kind - can use less, it's up to you)
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
*Boil water and add tea bag and lavender. Steep for 3 minutes or according to the tea bag directions.
*Filter out lavender. I used my tea man so I didn't have to worry about this. Plus, he's dang cute. If you have a tea ball, you can use that. Or, just filter through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
*Add remaining ingredients, stir, and savor the warm, creamy goodness.
